Aerosmith - Falling off the Edge

Recently I posted how Aerosmith was back on the road. Well it looks like that tour has come to a screeching halt. If you haven't heard yet, Steven Tyler has reportedly quit the band. (Just do a google search and you'll find a ton of articles about this).

So now, Joe Perry is saying that Aerosmith will look for a new singer to continue on. Now I can understand the frustration, but are they really going to try to continue without Steven Tyler? Sorry, but it just doesn't make any sense to me. That would be like Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant.

I know that they could probably find someone that sings like him and too fill in on stage - other bands have done it - but it just wouldn't be the same. Sure bands like Van Halen had success after David Lee Roth left, with Sammy Hagar (making them more commercially successful), but with such a recognizable frontman, it just wouldn't make any sense. Not too mention Perry and him are behind all the bands biggest hits.

So if they did continue without Tyler and bring in a new singer, then I would hope they wouldn't use the name Aerosmith. Maybe the guys should just give it some time, most fans of the band know this isn't the first round of trouble for the band (just check out behind the music for a complete history and their downfall and rise too the top).

"Orphan" - Scary movie with a twist

This post would have been perfect for Halloween, but sorry running a couple of days behind. However, even though that day has come and gone - there's no reason why you shouldn't watch this movie.

"Orphan" may look like another scary kid movie - it may remind you of "The Ring" - creepy girl with dark hair - But rest assured, there is no little ghost girl in this movie. It's very suspenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat - but this scary movie is more of a thriller than a horror film.

The story begins with a mother who's unborn daughter died while she was pregnant. So her and her husband decide to adopt. When they go to the orphanage, the parents fall in love with this little 9 year old Russian girl - Ester. So they bring her home to meet their other 2 children, and that's where it gets interesting. Soon after she joins the family, things start to get interesting as trouble follows her and anyone who gets in her way.

The one thing that I really liked about "Orphan" was a big twist at the end, that you probably wouldn't be able to guess (I won't give that away, of course). Although the movie starts a little slow, once Ester joins the family the pace picks up quickly and you'll be wondering what's going to happen next.

Isabelle Fuhrman - who plays the 9 year old - does an excellent job at bringing this frightening character to life. So if you're looking for a good thriller, that will keep you guessing as too what's really going on, my wife and I highly recommend "Orphan".

"2012" - It's the End of the World As We Know It

So here's a movie that I really want to see, "2012". It's a disaster end of the world movie - the special effects just look amazing. It's from the director of "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow".

So the basic story is this - One of the earliest civilizations - the Mayans- predicted there would be great change to our world in 2012 (that's when the Mayan calendar ends, on 12-21-2012), although there's no proof that anything will actually happen, but it makes for a great story.

In the movie however, it's the worst case scenario featuring a chain of natural disasters on a scale we have never seen. Massive tornadoes, hurricanes, tidal waves, earthquakes, volcanoes - you name it.

Like I said earlier, these look like some of the best special effects I have ever seen in a disaster movie, I'll be heading to the theatre on opening day. "2012" looks like it will be an action packed edge of your seat film. So here's a look at full trailer below, Hang on "2012" will be a bumpy ride.

90's Rock Part 2 - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Kurt, Chris, & Dave - If there's one 90's band that really turned around the 80's hard rock scene, it would have to be Nirvana. When the band released "Nevermind" in 1991, the hairband scene was still in full force, but not for long. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was unlike just about anything in the mainstream at the time.

I remember the first time I heard that song, I wasn't even sure I like it at the time, I loved the 80's hard rock scene - but Nirvana was a breath of fresh air, a much more stripped down, no thrills sound. "Nevermind" launched the band into super-stardom with songs like "In Bloom", "Come as You Are", and "Lithium".

The band would release just one more album, "In Utero" - shortly after that, Kurt Cobain committed suicide and it's hard to say what might have been. Whether or not you liked Nirvana, it was hard to ignore the sound that they inspired with the 90's rock scene, and Kurt's very passionate & haunting song writing that spoke to generation X.

Nirvana's music still lives on of course and the band's drummer Dave Grohl continued rocking forming the Foo Fighters - switching too guitar and vocals. So if you haven't listened to Nirvana in a while it might be time to pull out some of their music... Rest in Peace Kurt - you probably never knew just how much you changed rock music.

"Brutal Legend" - Heavy Metal Hit

So if you like heavy metal or hard rock, and video games - then you'll probably want to check out Brutal Legend. Jack Black does the voice (and the character even looks like him) of roadie Eddie Riggs - who thinks he's taken the stage for the last time after an accident transports him into a mystical heavy metal world.

You fight and smash your way through this world, armed with your Flying V guitar and battle axe, upgrading as you move through "Brutal Legend", and learn different moves and combos. But you won't go it alone, some of rock's biggest stars will make an appearance - including the prince of darkness - Ozzy.

The game looks great, with a very stylized world full of lots of color and detail - it's open world - so you can really get a chance to take a look around and explore, not too mention drive just about anywhere in your hot rod - which you can also upgrade -and even play some guitar solos to summon your army.

This game is a lot of fun, even if hard rock and metal isn't your thing - there's still a lot to enjoy here and you can try it by downloading the demo either on Xbox Live, or the Playstition Network. - Rock On!!!

U2 Live - Rocking in Tampa

So any U2 fans out there? I was just thinking of this band - they played live in Tampa this past Friday, and although I didn't see them live this time around, I saw them back in 1997 at Houlihan's Stadium. It was the final event before the stadium was demolished (Raymond James Stadium replaced it - as the home for the Tampa Bay Bucs).

I must say that it was a great concert - the band sounded so good that night, with a larger than life stage show, and played some of my favorite songs, including "Where the Streets Have No Name", "One", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", and "With or Without You". I would have love to have heard them play "Bad" - my all time favorite U2 song - but that wasn't on the setlist that night.

U2 is one of those bands, where even if you don't really like them - you probably still like at least one or two of their songs. But at the same time I realize there are people who either love em or hate em.

So although I didn't see U2 on this tour - like I said it made me think of when I saw them live 12 years ago. From what I've heard the concert has received some excellent reviews, and of course the stage show was still larger than life. So if anyone has seen their current tour (or past shows) and would like to leave a comment - please feel free too.

Aerosmith - Back on the Road

Aerosmith was forced to cancel it's tour over the summer after singer Steven Tyler broke his shoulder after falling off the stage. But now it looks like they are ready to hit the road again.

The accident happened in South Dakota in August, Tyler not only broke his shoulder- but needed his head stitched up as well. This wasn't the only time this year the band was forced off the road though, shows were cancelled earlier this year when the singer got sick with pneumonia.

But now the band is gearing up to play it's first show since Tyler's fall, it will take place at a convention - in San Francisco next week, it's a private concert. Not exactly an arena rock show, but it's a start for now.

I've seen Aerosmith a number of times in concert, probably more than just about any other band I've seen live, a few years back - I saw them with Motley Crue. Although I like the Crue, it must have not been their night- cause Aerosmith just blew them off the stage that night.

And in more Aerosmith related news, since guitarist Joe Perry wasn't sure when and if the band would be back on tour, he's released a solo album , "Have Guitar Will Travel."

90's Rock - The Seattle Scene

A while back I talked about some of my favorite 80's hard rock bands - yeah the hair bands. So now I thought I would look at some of my favorite 90's bands.

One of my favorite bands from the early 90's, was Pearl Jam - a band that I still really like. The band was actually formed from the ashes of another Seattle group, Mother Love Bone- the band that Bassist Jeff Ament & guitarist Stone Gossard were in before Pearl Jam. Mother Love Bone fell apart after the death of it's lead singer Andrew Wood.

Stone and Jeff began working on another band and their demo wound up in the hands of California surfer Eddie Vedder - who was playing with the band Bad Radio at the time. Two of the songs on that demo eventually became "Alive" and "Once".

Pearl Jam took off with the release of their first album "Ten" in 1991, which included "Alive", "Once", the mega-hit "Jeremy", and the haunting ballad "Black". But they weren't ready for the media blitz that followed and Vedder fought super-stardom as much as he could- preferring a more private life - and even refused to do a video for "Black". Pearl Jam also fought to get ticket prices lowered battling against Ticketmaster, claiming they were inflating prices with their service charges - and even boycotted their venues for awhile.

Despite all their antics the band released a number of albums in the 90's including "Vs." & "Vitalogy" - spawning the hits "Daughter" & "Better Man" - and has just released their 9th studio album "Backspacer".

I saw the band live when their second album came out in the mid 90's and I must say, they are a great live band - a very basic stage show - you won't see pyro, lasers, and explosions - just a great rock show, and that's what Pearl Jam has always been about.

"Uncharted 2" - This Demo Rocks

If you have a PS3 you will definitely want to download the "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" demo. It was just released today on the playstation network, it's a good size demo though nearly 1.3 GB so make sure you have plenty of room on your hard drive.

First off, this demo looks amazing - great graphics with so much detail, just take a look at how breath taking the environments look- as well as awesome controls that really take you into the game and as you'll find there are many ways to enjoy this demo.

The "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" Demo is muliplayer, it includes four maps, four competitive modes and two co-op modes. Among those are Elmination where you team up and hunt out everyone on the other team, there's also chain reaction, which is like catpture the flag (but you have to do it in a specific order) and of course you can't have multiplayer without death match. You can even record your game in cinema mode.

The 4 maps included in the demo are "Plaza" and "Village," "Ice Cave" and "Temple." There's plenty to explore in these maps and this really gives you a taste of what the full game will be like - minus the puzzles and problem solving that you'll see in the finished game.

I've been playing a lot of the quick matches, where you choose the type of game you want to play and the system finds the players and matches you can join. I've done the team deathmatch game in the Ice Cave and as well as the co-op arena where you have to capture the treasure. You can also setup a custom game that you can your friends can play, where you can select any game type and location.

So grab your PS3 controller and download the "Uncharted 2" demo, the full game hits the stores on October 13th - but there's no reason why you can't get a taste of Drake's next adventure.

New Breaking Benjamin Song

I really like Breaking Benjamin, this is their new song "I will not Bow", it's on the soundtrack to the new movie "Surrogates". If you haven't really listened to this band and you like most of today's rock, then you should really give them a listen. Check out their last 2 albums 2007's "Phobia" & 2004's "We are not Alone". (Their debut album "Saturate" is good as well, but I'm not as familiar with that one) Those are 2 best albums from this band, including hits like "Diary of Jane", "Sooner or Later", and "So Cold", but there are many other great songs on these albums.

"The Last House on the Left" - Chilling Thriller

This movie is a remake of the 1972 Wes Craven thriller and it surely doesn't disappoint. I rented this on blue ray which includes 2 versions on the disc, the theatrical version and the unrated version. We watched the unrated version which is very graphic and a little more intense than then what was shown in the theatre. Although the theatrical version of this movie doesn't really hold back that much either.

The film is about a teenage girl, who goes on vacation with here parents to a lake house in the middle of nowhere. While hanging out with a friend, she runs into the wrong people and is kidnapped, shot and left for dead. The people who did this to her wind up seeking shelter in the her parent's house (without knowing this of course). Once the parents find out what they did to their daughter, they will stop at nothing to get revenge. I won't tell you how they find out it's them, you'll have to see for yourself.

So like I said at the beginning of this post, this movie is very graphic - lots of blood and guts - and even a disturbing situation between one of the kidnappers and the teen girl. (You can probably guess where I'm going with that, but I won't get into too much detail).

If you like thrillers, then I highly recommend you see this movie, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Many of the chilling scenes really play into the "shock factor". It could be a little too much for some people, but nothing is really watered down in this movie and that's what makes it work.

Paramore Unplugged

I really like the band Paramore, Singer Hayley Williams has a really good voice and I was really impressed with their last album "Riot". So this post isn't going to be all that long and I won't be reviewing or talking about a CD. Instead for any Paramore fans out there, I found this video on You Tube of them covering the song "Use Somebody"- by Kings of Leon. It's all acoustic and I thought they did a really good job. Check it out and let me know what you think.

"The Final Destination" - 3D is the only thing that tries to save this movie

Just like the title says, don't expect too much from this movie. The 3-D experience is really the only reason to go see it and that can still be a tough sell for some. I saw all the rest of the Final Destination movies (there were 3 before this one), so I thought it would be cool to see this - since 3-D would make the death scenes much more dramatic.

The biggest problem with this movie, is that well this has all been done before - there really is nothing new. For anyone out there who has never seen the other movies, the basic story is this (stop right here if you don't want too know) - a group of friends are usually hanging out somewhere and one of them has a premonition that things will go horribly wrong. This person sees their death and their friend's death in graphic detail, so they convince their friends that have to leave now and sure enough everything they see comes true. But the real question is, did they really escape death or just delay it???

So this was a good concept, when the original movie came out back in 2000, there wasn't really a movie like this at time. There are never any ghosts, demons or serial killers, it's just the shadowy hand of death that's stalking them. But the problem is this plot has been done to death (pardon the pun) in the other movies - and with nothing really new in this movie- what's the point except for the 3-D maybe???

So let's talk about the 3-D then, this is really the only reason why you would see this movie. If you really enjoy thrillers, there are lots of gory death scenes and the 3-D just really brings them to life. Movies like this are perfect for 3-D, and the newer 3-D technology far surpasses those older paper 3-D glasses you used to have too wear.

So if you don't mind all the gore and want the death scenes to jump off the screen, then you may be satisfied with this movie, however if you still expect more from "The Final Destination", then you're better off to rent the original "Final Destination" and see where it all began .

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Finally a really good Batman game

For those gamers out there who were wondering when there would finally be a good Batman video game, Arkham Asylum should answer that question. Everything really comes together for this game quite nicely.

The story revolves around the Joker, the lead villain in the game (no surprise, I'm sure) - So the joker allows himself to be captured so that he can take over Arkham Asylum, which of course is where you'll not only deal with him, but other super villains like Scarecrow and Harley Quinn.

So too start off with, this game looks really good, great graphics, excellent voice acting and fluid animations really help make this game a winner. But as every gamer knows, that doesn't mean anything if the controls are terrible and thankfully they're not. The controls are pretty much spot on giving you hints (especially when you first start the game) - so you'll quickly learn how to control the caped crusader.

Combat is fun, with some nice slow motion attacks, although I do wish there were destructible environments. There's also some fun stealth elements to the game which can be a lot of fun. For instance you can swing up high above your enemies and hide on gargoyles near the ceiling - in the dark and remain undetectable. Then swoop down on them when they least expect it, take them out, and swing back up into the darkness again before the other thugs discover you. (you even have an x-ray vision type mode, which will really help you scope out your enemies.)

I really enjoyed playing this game, and if you have a PS3 you can play as the joker. So try this game out, you can download the demo on xbox live or playstation network - like I said earlier, finally a really good Batman game.

Pop Evil - No Evil here, just great melodic hard rock

With all the new rock albums that have come out lately from big bands like Papa Roach, Nickelback & Green Day - a lesser know band can get lost in the shuffle.

But if you like good straight up hard rock music, then you should really give Michigan's Pop Evil a listen. I first heard this band quite a bit on satellite radio, and I really liked them. Their album "Lipstick on the Mirror" kicks off with the first song I heard from them, the catchy rocker "Hero". "Breathe", the second song on the album reminds me a bit of Saliva, and yes that's a compliment.

The music just gets better from there, "100 in a 55" is one of my favorite songs on this album - a guitar driven power ballad that has a great sing-a-long chorus, "Stepping Stone" & "Somebody Like You" are 2 more of my favorites.

Singer Leigh Kakaty has a strong voice, although I will admit it sounds a bit twangy on the beginning of "100 in a 55" - (too me anyway) but it works, especially when the song kicks in. There's even an acoustic version of "Stepping Stone" & "100 in a 55" at the end of the album.

So I would say give this album a listen, especially if you like a lot of today's hard rock music - like Shinedown, Saliva, & Puddle of Mudd, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Madden 10, if you love football - you'll love this game

So ever since I did the preview for Madden 2010, I've had a lot of people ask me what I think of the real game now. We'll I've played it quite a bit and it's by far the best Madden yet.

One thing you'll really notice in this game is just how good the presentation is, which really makes it feel like you're watching the game on tv and it's in full 1080p on a HD tv (as long as your tv supports full HD), so it looks incredible.

Animations are very smooth, plus there's even crowd shots and fans will actually get up and leave if you're playing really terrible.

So here's a look at some of the big improvements I mentioned earlier in my preview a few weeks ago.

---Online franchise mode including live drafts, player transactions, league message boards - which you can not only control from your console, but also remotely through a web browser or from your iPod Touch or iPhone from an app that you can download at the app.

---Online Co-Op play - For the first time you can play on the same team as your friends online. In the past, you could only play against each other online.

---Plus the fight for the fumble feature is a pretty cool addition. This means that fumbles aren't always a gimmie anymore. You may have to actually fight the other team for possession of the ball, by hitting certain buttons on the controller.

So even though Madden 2010 is really the only NFL game out there (thanks to their exclusive licensing deal) - EA doesn't get lazy and it shows in their latest release. So go play this game, cause it's been a long off season.

"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" - Action Packed Summer Thrill Ride

I went to see this movie recently, and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised since I didn't really know what to expect. Even though this film won't win an Oscar, "G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra" has plenty of action and a few laughs as well to make this a good summer blockbuster.

This movie is an updated version of the original cartoon series, with a darker edge too it. The story is centered around some of the most recognizable Joe's - Duke (Channing Tatum), Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), - under the command of General Hawk (Dennis Quaid). On the evil side - super model Sienna Miller (with dark hair for this role) plays the Baroness - who along with Scarlett provide some nice eye candy in this film.

The special effects and wall to wall action sequences really make this movie work and the story takes places in what's suppose to be "the not-so-distant future". The title of the movie pretty much describes the story, the beginning stages of the terrorist organization known as Cobra and the elite special forces team known as G.I. Joe - that's of course out to stop them. There is some clever and witty humor in the film, as well some throwbacks to the original series. Yes - you will here the famous G.I. Joe tag line "knowing is half the battle" in the movie.

Although critics have panned this movie (did you really expect them to like it?), this really is a fun big budget thrill ride, that has more than enough action and a little bit of comic relief to make it worth the ticket price.

New Jersey Pop Metal

Bon Jovi's road to super stardom began when Jon Bon Jovi wrote a song for a local radio station compilation album - that song was "Runaway". Jon has called it a "fluke", DJ's started playing the track and it became a hit, even without an album.

Bon Jovi released their first album in the early 80's (including yeah you guessed it, "Runaway"). The band had one more album after their debut - that album was " 7800 Fahrenheit" - before they started working on the album that would take them to the top of the charts, "Slippery When Wet".

But one of the band's biggest hits was almost given away to another group. Jon was actually writing a song for the band Loverboy when something told him to keep that song for his band. It's a good thing he did cause that song was "You Give Love a Bad Name". If he would have given that track to Loverboy, who knows maybe they would have became one of the biggest hair bands of the 80's.

"Slippery When Wet" however became one of the biggest albums of the 80's and turned Bon Jovi into a super group and unlike many bands of that decade, Bon Jovi was still successful in the 90's and continues to tour and record today. Yeah they may have been the glam pretty boys of the 80's, but the band has had a ton of hits including, the songs mentioned above, as well as "Wanted Dead or Alive", "Livin' on a Prayer", "Born to Be My Baby","Bad Medicine", "It's My Life", "Bed of Roses", and more recent hits like "It's My Life", and "Have a Nice Day".

Bon Jovi is another band I've seen a number of times (a couple times in their hairband heyday) and recently as well. They always put on a great show and are a great bunch of musicians.

So there you have it, some of the biggest 80's hard rock bands. I'll mention a few more quickly - Dokken, Tesla, Skid Row and White Lion were some more of my favorites from that era as well as Motley Crue (another mega-band that I wanted to mention) and Queensryche. So this will conclude my posts of the 80's LA hair band scene. "It's better to burn out, than fade away.."

So here's a few more of some of my favorite hairbands from the 80's.

Def Leppard was one of the biggest bands of the decade, they formed in the late 70's in Shefield, England and were originally part of a movement known as the new wave of british heavy metal. Lead Singer Joe Elliot came up with the name, which mimicked the spelling of "Led Zeppelin" (although "Leppard" had one less letter then "Zeppelin"). With their break through album "Pyromania" and their massive follow-up "Hysteria", the english rockers rode their guitar driven melodic rock sound to the top of the charts. Hysteria became one of the biggest albums of the decade and only the third in rock history that had seven singles or more on the US Hot 100.

As most know, the band wasn't always riding high though. On New Year's eve 1984 drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car crash - but got back behind the drums with a special electronic kit and continues with the band today. Then on January 8th, 1991 guitarist Steve Clark lost his fight to alcohol addiction and passed away. Guitarist Vivian Campbell joined the band a little over a year later and continues with them today.

Def Leppard continues to tour today and still releases new albums, although most will remember them for their classics like "Rock of Ages", "Photograph", "Bringing on the Heartbreak", "Pour Some Sugar on Me" & "Armageddon It".

I've seen this band a number of times (once with my wife who had a crush on Joe, and swears that he was looking right at her) and they always put on a great rock show. If they come to your town and you like 80's rock - make sure you check them out.

Hair Today (or at least back in the 80's, but many are still around)

The next couple of posts will be about 80's hard rock, hair bands, glam bands - whatever you want to call them. I'll be talking about some of my favorite bands from that era. I'll start off with Guns n Roses, although it's hard to call them a hairband since they started to take LA rock in a darker grittier direction and stood side by side with many of the Seattle bands in the early 90's.

It all started when William Bailey - aka Axl Rose (yeah now you can see why he wants to be known as Axl, Bill Bailey just doesn't have the same charm) hit the streets of Los Angeles. Axl was in the band Hollywood Rose when he joined forces with guitarist Traci Guns, who would later form LA Guns. So that's where the early version of Guns n Roses came from. Guitarist Slash (Saul Hudson, one of my favorite guitar players) would later join and help finalize the original GnR lineup.

Although Slash almost teamed up with another LA rock band. You may find this tough to believe but he could of ended up in one of the ultimate hairbands at the time - Poison. Yup that's right, he auditioned and Brett Michaels thought he would be a perfect fit, although he wasn't too much into the whole makeup thing. So thankfully Poison found guitarist CC Deville and Slash made his way to GnR.

In the late 80's Guns released their groundbreaking debut "Appetite for Destruction" with mega hits like "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City". In the early 90's "Use Your Illusion I & II" were just as successful even in the middle of the Grunge scene - Guns was played back to back with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam - while most bands of their decade just disappeared.
The band tended to have an appetite for self destruction and imploded in the mid 90's, although Axl has continued with a new lineup still called Guns n Roses - and finally released Chinese Democracy earlier this year - a decent album, but still pales in comparison to when G n Fn R was the biggest band in the world.

Madden 2010 is almost here!!! (and so is football!!!)

Are you ready for football and Madden 2010??? The demo is suppose to be out this Thursday on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation store according to the official Madden site, the game hits stores on August 14th.

In the demo you play in snow (yeah!!!, actually I got tired of snow so that's why I live in the sunshine state now) - as either the Cowboys or the Giants for one full quarter.

So what's new this year in Madden 2010???

- Online franchise mode including live drafts, player transactions, league message boards - which you can not only control from your console, but also remotely through a web browser or from your iPod Touch or iPhone from an app that you can download at the app store.

-Online Co-Op play - this sounds really cool. For the first time you can play on the same team as your friends online. In the past, you could only play against each other online.

-2 athletes on the cover - yup watch out for the Madden curse, for the first time- the cover art will have 2 athletes, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. So does this mean they both need to worry???

EA also says expect smoother animations, better graphics and details, and one of the biggest changes is presentation (which means the game will look a lot more like it does on your tv.) plus new stadiums - including the new home of Dallas Cowboys (even though I'm not a Cowboys fan) and like I said at the beginning of this post, since Madden is back so is Football, and it's about time - seemed like a long off-season.

Green Day rocks and so does their latest album

Green Day recently released their latest album "20th Century Breakdown" - coming off the heels of their smash "American Idiot" album, a tough act to follow. But let me tell you this - they have delivered.

There's a lot of great music on this CD, although not quite as good as "American Idiot" (it comes close). One thing this band has always been good at is writing good catchy rock songs and just like their last album they have stepped out of their comfort zone, experimenting with different tempo changes as well as fitting songs together that sound like 2 or 3 different songs - but it still works.

The music kicks in with the title track - nice catchy song that sounds like well - more than just one song, but it works. "Know your enemy", the bands first single - is next. This one grew on me, although I wasn't too crazy about it at first. There's plenty of variety on this album, with songs like "Before The Lobotomy" - one of my favorites (I know - strange title, but it's a cool song that starts of with some nice acoustic guitar).

Other standouts are "¡Viva la Gloria!", "Last of the American Girls", "Restless Heart Syndrome" (very Beatle-ish & another one of the album's best songs) & "21 Guns" - the band's newest single that you can hear in the new Transformers movie.

There are some songs that just don't work that well, like the quirky "Peacemaker" (kind of like a western -honky talk thing), yeah it just didn't impress me.

But overall there is plenty of music on this album that you will enjoy. Check this one out- especially if you liked "American Idiot" - at least give it a listen on iTunes, then buy it.

"Land of the Lost" should have stayed lost

I went to see that "Land of the Lost" movie (it was only 2 dollars -thank god). I can see why this movie didn't last long at the regular theatres. The best thing about the movie was Will Ferrel and some of the best parts were when Will was still living in the present day not the prehistoric land of the lost (check out the scene where Marshall is interviewed by Matt Lauer). One of the biggest problems with this movie was they tried to make it a comedy. Are you kidding me - a comedy???

The movie was based on the Sid and Kroft series that aired in the 70's, a show that I loved when I was a kid. Although I'll never look at that show the same way after this crappy movie. Ok, so the movie did have a lot of the original elements of the show, of course the special effects were a lot better, and the characters had the same names - Marshall, Will, and Holly (although they weren't a family like in the original). The lizard people known as the sleestack, as well as the t-rex, and even the little monkey guy known as cha-ka were all in the movie, like the original.

So in the movie Rick Marshall (played by Ferrel) tries to prove that time travel is possible, and has this device that should allow it. Well similar to the original show, he ends up being plunged over this huge water fall while on a raft during an earthquake and what do you know he's in the land of the lost.

This is where everything falls apart, there's never really a sense of suspense or danger - nothing to really pull you into this movie. The adventure seems so forced, and there's plenty of corny jokes and gags that really distract you from the very weak plot to begin with.

Will tries to save the movie at times (like when he sings the theme song to the original show, there are a few clever moments like that - but they are few and far between - Will go make "Old School 2" already, that's what people want to see).

So like I said before this is one you'll want to skip for sure - even 2 dollars is a little too much.
